7/9/16-Dolly Parton about hits

Dolly Parton
Country Pop music icon Dolly Parton couldn’t care less if she has another big hit. The 70-year-old singer’s latest singles aren’t grabbing as much airtime on radio stations as her smashes 9 to 5 and Jolene did back in the day, and she accepts she’s not as popular as her more contemporary peers, but reaching the top of album charts is no longer a concern of hers. (Of course, penning “I Will Always Love You” alone should financially be enough!)
“I’m one of those people, I don’t do it for commercial reasons,” Dolly revealed to Billboard reporters at a recent press conference in Toronto, Canada. “I just write what I write and I sing what I sing and I just get in and do it. At this point in my life I’d probably have more success if I would work with other important people, but my songs are just so personal.
“If I’m looking for big hit records, I’d probably go looking for a big producer, but for now I like doing what I’m doing and I’m happy and content with that. And my true fans accept that.”
Dolly is currently performing shows across North America as part of her Pure & Simple Tour, and in August she will release her 43rd album, Pure & Simple – a nostalgic record that hearkens back to her humble beginnings in show business in the early 1960s.
“This particular album is almost like a garage band,” she explained. “I have a little old bitty booth that I have just set up at my publishing company just for songs I write; I just go in and do my little demos and that was how this all started.”
Dolly’s Pure & Simple album is filled with love songs in honor of husband Carl Thomas Dean. The couple renewed its vows in May in celebration of 50 years of marriage.

6/5/16-Paul Simon retired?

Based on recent comments, Friday night may have been the last show on U.S. soil for Paul Simon. Not that anything is set in stone, but Simon has said that he wants to try retirement as show business no longer holds any interest for him. He does have dates coming up for Europe but no further shows for North America. Compared to the previous night’s show at Forest Hills, Simon seemed to wrapping up his career in one neat package. […]
