11/3/16-Bobby Brown on jail

Bobby BrownThe fear of returning to jail prompted R&B veteran Bobby Brown to finally conquer his drink and drug demons for the sake of his children.
The New Edition star has famously struggled with substance abuse over the years, but after his last stint behind bars in 2013, he knew it was time to change his ways.
“Jail got me to stop taking drugs,” he explained on U.S. medical series The Dr. Oz Show, which airs on Thursday. “I never wanted to go back to jail. I didn’t want to be incarcerated ever, ever again.”
Brown was sentenced to 55 days in jail for drink driving charges in early 2013 after an arrest in October, 2012, but he only spent nine hours locked up before he was allowed to walk free due to overcrowding.
However, the brief punishment was enough to make Brown realize his wrongs.
“I didn’t want my kids to grow up and see me in that type of light,” he said. “I’ve always been one to want to grow, to want to be better and better on the next day – if I’m bad yesterday, I want to be better the next day, especially for my children.
“I mean, my children mean everything to me, everything. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them. So I try to be as strong as possible for them every day. And it takes every day for me to do that.”
Brown, who is still serving the final months of his four-year probation, has maintained his sobriety throughout a series of personal lows, including the tragic death of Bobbi Kristina, his daughter with Whitney Houston, in July, 2015.
He insists he is “doing great” more than a year on from the heartbreak, but added, “Of course, on an everyday basis, I still think about her and I still go through it. But, I think I’m a lot more comfortable with knowing that she’s in a better place, knowing that she’s not in pain anymore, you know, and I’m just grateful for that.”
Brown has also since become a father again, welcoming his seventh child, a daughter, in July. The little girl is his third kid with his manager wife Alicia Etheredge, who he wed in 2012.
