Jerry Leiber, the lyricist who, with his partner Mike Stoller, wrote some of the most enduring classics in the history of rock'n'roll, including "Hound Dog," "Yakety Yak," "Stand By Me" and "On Broadway," died on Monday in Los Angeles. He was 78.

Nickolas Ashford, one-half of the successful Motown singer-songwriter duo of Ashford & Simpson, died Monday. July 11, 2011–Rob Grill, Grass Roots leader

"Lost 45s" guest Rob Grill, lead singer, songwriter and bass player of the '60s rock group the Grass Roots passed away Monday morning, his wife Nancy said in a statement. He was 67. Grill was hospitalized earlier this month after suffering a fall in his home. He later had two strokes while in the hospital.
